New Yatt Riding for the Disabled

It's what you CAN do that counts

Volunteering

At New Yatt RDA, we welcome volunteers with all levels of experience, and none. It’s a wonderful way to meet new people, get involved in your community and to help others who need your support for a few hours a day.

You can volunteer for as much or as little time as you have free and we will match your abilities to the daily tasks either on the yard or within our sessions. You don’t need to be an Olympic 100-metre sprinter but if you are happy to stand and walk with some intermittent trotting for an hour or so, then please consider joining our team. It’s a wonderful way to meet new friends and to improve your levels of activity.

Many of our junior riders have one trained volunteer leading the pony and two more volunteers, one each side, walking alongside (Sidewalkers). We offer full training for leaders and sidewalkers before joining a session and we will continue to offer training throughout your time with us.

We also offer training on how to bring a horse or pony down from the fields, how to prepare feeds, grooming, tacking up, fitting rugs and cleaning equipment and tack.

If you’d prefer to volunteer but not be involved with the horses, then we have several yard based activities including tack cleaning, muck clearing and site maintenance that you could be involved with. Our belief and motto of the RDA is ‘It’s what you can do that counts’ and this applies not only to our riders, but to our amazing volunteers too.

If you are interested in volunteering with us or would like to know more information, please contact our volunteer liaison officer Sara at: Volunteer Enquiries
