JOIN US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO OUR LOCAL RIDERS

New Yatt RDA is run by a team of 60 unpaid volunteers and together we help over 100 children and adults with physical and/or learning difficulties to ride, offering them therapy, achievement and fun.

During sessions our helpers groom and tack up our horses and ponies; assist the qualified Coaches with mounting and dismounting riders and support the riders by leading or side-walking. Experience of handling horses and ponies is useful but reliability, willingness to learn, teamwork and a sense of humour are essential.

New volunteers will receive induction training and are teamed up with experienced helpers when they first join a session. We aim to offer a friendly, supportive environment for our helpers and riders. NYRDA volunteers must abide by our Group policies and procedures regarding Training; Health & Safety and Safeguarding and will be covered by the RDA Group Insurance policy.

Volunteering

We also need volunteers for horse and site management duties on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday Mornings. On these days we may need to cover farrier, vet, trainer and physiotherapist appointments plus helpers are organised into teams typically engaged in site and paddock management including moving fences, muck clearing and checking water troughs; tack cleaning and housekeeping of public areas.

Many of our volunteers are involved in fundraising, promotion and community liaison and we welcome applicants with skills in these areas. Some volunteers attend more than once a week and can combine various roles.

ALL applicants will be invited by our Volunteer Coordinator to a site visit to meet helpers and ponies and discuss volunteering opportunities before completing an application form with references and an online enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (if working with riders). We are in a rural location so own transport is required.

New volunteers will receive induction and ongoing training to complete their Green Card which confers
RDA Group Insurance cover. We aim to offer a friendly, supportive environment and new helpers are teamed up with experienced helpers when they first join a session. NYRDA volunteers must comply with Group policies and procedures covering Horsecare, Health & Safety and Safeguarding at all times.

PLEASE NOTE, ALL OUR HELPERS ARE VOLUNTEERS; WE DO NOT OFFER PAID EMPLOYMENT OR FORMAL WORK EXPERIENCE.
