About us

Please note.

We do NOT hold a waiting list or accept speculative enquiries. Rather, we will update this website on a regular basis to announce opportunities to join specific sessions and invite applications. We will also alert local organisations and other sources of referral.

New Yatt Riding for the Disabled is an incorporated charity based at North Leigh, West Oxfordshire. Since 1984 a dedicated team of RDA trained Coaches and 50+ volunteer helpers have provided regular riding lessons for the local disabled community. We operate from a dedicated 24 acre site with an indoor school. Our ponies and horses are carefully chosen for their temperament, size and ability to work with our riders.

We are run by unpaid volunteers and, thanks to fundraising efforts including charitable grants and donations from our local community, we continue to offer affordable riding to our participants, currently £8 per 30 minute session.

Many of our riders have a physical disability or learning difficulties, some may have both. Each session will cater for 2 or 3 small groups of riders of similar age or riding ability but all our riders are encouraged to achieve their personal riding objectives at their own pace.

Riding is widely recognised as an excellent form of therapy - building self-confidence, improving concentration, co-ordination and balance, providing recreation and sport. Best of all, riding is FUN and our riders regularly tell us how much they enjoy coming to New Yatt RDA.

New Riders - how to apply

Over 100 riders participate in our sessions each year. Some are referred to us by medical or care professionals and many attend via their school or college, the remainder attend independently. Unfortunately very few new individual places became available. Please note that the minimum age to ride with us is 5 years and the maximum rider weight is 76kg/12 stone.

We will give priority to applications from residents with West Oxfordshire District postcodes (OX7; 18; 28 & 29) and Cherwell District (OX5; 20; 25 & 26).

Prospective riders will be asked to complete and email our Enquiry Form and provide as much information to help our Group Physio and Group Coaches match them to the right opportunity. Our Data Protection policy is available on the Contact page.
